DEFINITION
WMAs of Excellence shall be conferred on winners in the form of a gold statuette trophy at the awards ceremonies in the following categories:
ACTING:
A performance by an actor or actress in promoting the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in a motion picture, and excellent live performance.
ANIMATED FEATURE FILM:
A narrative or abstract animated film qualifies in this category if at least 80 percent of its total running time and 90 percent of its major characters are animated. The motion picture must fulfill all criteria related to the promotion of the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). Additionally, the film must be rated “G” (General Audience) and deemed suitable for all children.
DOCUMENTARY:
A nonfiction motion picture that explores historical, cultural, social, economic, scientific, or artistic themes while actively promoting the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage and its elements.
ICH MOTION PICTURE:
A motion picture of merit that incorporates elements of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). This category requires live performances by one or more cast members. The performance should both promote and educate audiences about the submitting country’s cultural heritage, while also highlighting one cultural artifact to be safeguarded.
MUSIC:
An original score composed specifically to elevate and support the narrative of the ICH Motion Picture. The music must be a wholly original collaboration between the composer(s) and filmmaker(s), crafted to educate, evoke emotion, and enrich the storytelling of the film’s Intangible Cultural Heritage themes.
WRITING:
An adapted or original screenplay featuring narratives that promote the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and its elements. The script should thoughtfully integrate cultural themes and storytelling that preserve, honor, and raise awareness of ICH traditions.
STUDENT FILM:
Exceptional student film promoting and safeguarding the ICH elements.
HONORARY AWARDS:
The Honorary Awards shall be conferred upon individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the promotion of cultural diversity, socio-economic justice, equality, and human rights.
